More About Ronnie Coleman

Ronnie Coleman was born Ronald Dean Coleman on May 13, 1964 in Monroe, Louisiana. He graduated from Bastrop High School in 1982 and graduated with a B.S. in Accounting from Grambling State University. Ronnie played football for the Grambling State Tigers under the famous coach Eddie Robinson.

After graduating from Grambling State, Coleman became a Police Officer for the Arlington Police Department. He still works for the Department, but only as a reserve. His career now consists of the ins and outs of being a celebrity. Making money from sponsorship, winning bodybuilding contests, and guest posing. He is also regarded as the icon to the sport of bodybuilding and is an affiliate of Ben and Joe Weider`s IFBB. Coleman also helps support the Inner City Games, which was co-founded by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1991. Ronnie was also the recipient of the 2001 Admiral in the Texas Navy Certificate Award from Texas Governor Rick Perry for outstanding performances in bodybuilding and in the promotion of physical fitness.

Staying in shape was always a priority for Coleman. From what he learned on the football team to the demands staying in shape is on police officers. Coleman used what he learned to get into the sport of bodybuilding. He was first introduced to bodybuilding by Brian Dobson, the owner of Metro Flex Gym in Arlington. Dobson convinced him to do a show, Coleman agreed, and Ronnie slowly took over the sport.

Ronnie won the heavyweight and overall title at his first bodybuilding contest, the Mr. Texas in April of 1990. Other than Ronnie`s eight Olympia wins, he holds the record for most wins as an IFBB professional with 25. Other notable wins are as follows:

*1991 IFBB World Amateur Championships
*1997 IFBB Grand Prix Russia
*1999 Joe Weider’s Pro World
*1999 IFBB Grand Prix England
*2000 IFBB Grand Prix England
*2000 Joe Weider’s Pro World
*2001 Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic
*2001 New Zealand Grand Prix
*2002 Grand Prix Holland
*2003 Russian Grand Prix

Ronnie stands at 5’11″ but his weight varies from off-season to competition. During the off-season his weight will get as high as 330 pounds and during his contests it can be as low as 275 pounds. His most notable feature is his legs, which measure 36 inches around. Other notable features are his 24 inch arms and 60 inch chest. Ronnie is truly an icon to the sport of bodybuilding and in my mind, ranks just behind Arnold as the greatest bodybuilder of all time.Ronnie has also been the narrator of different bodybuilding videos that you can buy. “The Unbelievable”, which contains his daily activities while preparing for the 2000 Mr. Olympia. “The Cost of Redemption” shows him bench pressing almost 500 pounds, and “On The Road” contains shows 100 minutes of what Coleman`s workouts look like.

PostDateIcon December 10th, 2010 | PostAuthorIcon Author: Bamadems

The debate on whether bodybuilding should be an Olympic sport has been raging for years amongst the bodybuilding community and those interested in the Olympics. Ardent fans argue that weightlifting has been an Olympic sport for years, so why not bodybuilding? To diehard fans, bodybuilding and the Olympics seems to be a perfect fit, and questions like “Why is bodybuilding not already an Olympic sport?” are routinely aired.

Perhaps the more telling questions to ask are “Should bodybuilding be an Olympic sport?”, and “Would making bodybuilding an Olympic sport help the Olympics?”

Bodybuilding And The Olympics: Why It Is Not Already An Olympic Sport

The current Olympic program consists of 35 sports, 53 disciplines and more than 400 events, ranging from archery through to weightlifting and wrestling. The bodybuilding fan base, competitors, and sponsors are all ready and willing to take the step to Olympic level. The stumbling block is the International Olympic Committee and the OPC, who state simply that according to their criteria, bodybuilding is not a sport and there has no place in the Olympics.

This stand begs the question, “what determines a sport in the first place?”. A simple definition by the Australian Sports Foundation says that sport is “a human activity capable of achieving a result requiring physical exertion and/or physical skill, which, by its nature and organisation, is competitive and is generally accepted as being a sport.”

Arguably, bodybuilding fits within this definition, and one would think this should be enough for the IOC. However, the primary problem the IOC has with allowing bodybuilding into the Olympics concerns drug abuse. They claim that the widespread use of performance enhancing drugs by bodybuilders would prevent bodybuilding from complying with Olympic drug policies. There are harsh and vigilant doping rules for Olympic competitors, which would certainly exclude many professional bodybuilders.

However, the natural bodybuilding fraternity does not use performance enhancing drugs. The Olympics could uphold their drug policies, allowing only natural bodybuilders to compete at the Olympics. This also aligns with the tradition of the Olympics being a competition for sporting amateurs, not professionals.

Another reason stated by the IOC for excluding bodybuilding from the Olympics was that the judging in competitive bodybuilding was far too subjective for an Olympic judge to critique. Given the controversy surrounding the subjective judging of sports such as ice skating, diving, and gymnastics this argument hardly seems to hold water. In fact, bodybuilding would seem to be a perfect fit!

How Bodybuilding Could Help The Olympics

As competitive bodybuilding has never been a mainstream sport, including it as an Olympic Sport would allow the sport to be better known and recognized. It would also make the sport more accessible, allowing people to learn more about bodybuilding, and possibly participate themselves.

Bodybuilding would also help the Olympics by widening the scope of sports on display. By showcasing bodybuilding, the Olympics would be encouraging people of all ages to eat good food, work out, become fit, and look after their health. These are important messages in a world where so many people are overweight.

A look back into history reveals that the Olympics were first introduced by the Greeks, who idolized and revered well toned, aesthetic bodies with healthy strong physiques.

Bodybuilding And The Olympics: The Main Argument Against

Besides the drug doping issue, perhaps the most prominent argument against including bodybuilding in the Olympics is the subjectivity of judges and the fact that there is often no clear winner. Even though other Olympic sports like ice skating are also in this category, the majority of Olympic sporting events feature clear winners, either by time, distance, height or lifting weight. No one can argue that judging mistakes have been made when a competitor clearly wins an event.

Although the jury is still out on bodybuilding and Olympics, it seems for the time being at least, that the Olympic Committee has no intention of including bodybuilding as an Olympic sport. Despite the fact that the bodybuilding fraternity is ready and willing to take the step to Olympic level, it looks like they will be waiting for some time yet.

What got you into Bodybuilding & did you play any other sports before you started Bodybuilding?

I started weight training with my older brother, just for fun, after a while it became more than just going to the gym and trying to push more weight then him. Then one day while I was at the gym roughly about a year ago I was approached by a man, who was the manager of the nutrition shop across the street, called Urban Extreme Nutrition, he told me that if I wanted to compete the shop would sponsor me to cover some of my costs. I decided that I would compete in the Dallas Europa Super show, which at the time was far enough out I could focus on hitting it hard for a few months and working on some weak points before it would be necessary to cut back on carbs and all that for contest prep. When I was little I tried almost every sport out and ended up playing football through middle school and last year as a freshman at my high school. I decided this year to focus on bodybuilding and power lifting, in which I broke 1200 as a freshman. I am currently in my offseason and am looking for some sponsors to help me out for 2011.

How do you manage your diet while being at school? Advice for other teens who are in school?

I eat my biggest meals before and after school hours. I am currently in taking up to 1200 calories for breakfast and eat 3-4 meals after school. During school I consume 2 protein w/ oat shakes 1 around 915 and 1 around 12. I eat a regular offseason meal at lunch. The biggest issue for me is the time it takes to consume a full meal, during class that can be very hard to maintain good grades and eating for half the class period. So I try to stick to shakes during class.

Do you count calories in the offseason? If so how many calories do you consume?

I don’t really “count” calories, for me the biggest issue is eating the large amount of food that’s required in your diet to add to your physic. I would guess on a good day I consume around 4500 calories. A lot of my calories out side my whole food meals, have been coming from 1% milk, which I have found to really help with adding more calories to my diet.

How much protein do you like to take in daily? And what’s your favourite source of protein?

Around 250-300, I like lean red meats, a lot of fish, and chicken of course. I also like to take a lot of liquid meals, especially while I am at school; I like to take a meal replacement such as Stealth by vpx, which is a heavy calorie weight gainer.

What’s your favourite training Split?

Mon-chest, calves

Tue-back

Wed-hams, calves

Thur-shoulders

Fri-arms, calves

Sat-off

Sun-Quads

What are your favourite supplements?

Code Red by Musclemeds

Allwhey by Allmax

Stealth by VPX

NANOX9 by Muscletech

Nitrix by BSN

Gourmet whey+caisen blend by Dymatize

I will soon be doing a video show of some of my workouts for seriousteenbodybuilding.com and will hopefully have a website up in the upcoming months.

I am currently looking for some sponsorship to help me out in 2011 much-appreciated -

Warkworth — Alec Dewdney has once again proved to the world that bodybuilding is not only for the young.

The Warkworth resident emerged triumphant from the FAME (Fitness and Modeling Entertainment) World Bodybuilding Championship, this year held in Las Vegas, Nevada at Balley’s Hotel and Casino, as the “New World Champion, Super Grand Master Bodybuilder.”

Dewdney began his bodybuilding career a little over four years ago when it was apparent that he would need to build up his strength in order to help his wife who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis. He began training regularly at the YMCA in Cobourg and soon met up with fitness trainer, Dave Avery who later encouraged him to consider competing in a local bodybuilding competition. Dewdney trained intensively for three months preceding the event with Avery acting as training and posing coach and his wife, Julie Blight Avery taking care of the individual nutritional program required.

According to Dewdney, “The results were astounding! …and I finished in first place in the Super Grand Master division which is for those 60 and over.”

Since then, he has competed on three other occasions, always finishing high in the rankings. This year, Avery and his team of 11 fitness athletes, which ranged in age from 18 to 69, traveled to the FAME World Competition in Las Vegas. The team was one of the largest groups at the event, which numbered over 130 participants from Canada, the U.S., Australia, South Africa, Ghana, Barbados and Estonia. All together, the team accounted for 12 medals: four gold, two silver and six bronze with Dewdney taking one of the highest honours.

Says Avery, “It was an honour and a pleasure to work with Alec. He’s a dedicated and inspiring individual that has really opened my eyes to what a so-called “senior citizen” can do. He inspires me to be an even better trainer.”

Each year, the FAME organization, also known as “Body Proud.org”, conducts the FAME World Tour, a series of international physique competition showcase events. All shows are drug tested with regional shows acting as qualifiers leading into the FAME World Championships. Last year’s championship event was held in Montreal.

For the past two years, a local FAME regional event, organized by Avery, has been held in Cobourg. In April, 2011, Cobourg will again be host to the FAME Central Canada regional event scheduled to be held at the new Cobourg recreational centre.

Professional bodybuilder, Sylvan Gardner has turned in yet another credible performance following his participation at Darcy Beckles Bodybuilding Invitational Classic and Figure Girls competition at the Sir Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Bridgetown Barbados on Saturday November 20. The local bodybuilder managed to finish 7th from a field of eleven competent competitors.
Gardner’s countryman, Eustace ‘Robocop’ Abrams, also attended the competition and reports are that he also performed credibly, placing sixth from a field of eight competitors. Three other Guyanese bodybuilders, Devon Davis, Rudolph Blackman and Oswin Jones also comprised a part of the local team but were unable to place among the top spots.
Gardner visited Kaieteur Sport to provide details of his trip. He said that the quality of competition was high and he has learnt quite a lot from his participation. The local bodybuilder said that the highlight of the trip was a personal meeting with 9 time Mr. Olympian, Darren Charles.
“That was indeed an inspiring moment where Mr. Charles shared his experiences during his illustrious years in the sport some valuable experiences,” he said.
Activities were sanctioned by the Barbadian Federation and featured three categories, the Open figure (women), Open show (men) and the Darcy Beckles invitational classic.
Meanwhile, Gardner is especially thankful for the support received from the corporate community as well as friends towards offsetting the expenses for his participation at the event. These include the Marketing Executive of Giftland Office Max, Compton Babb, Jamie of Fitness Express, Ryan Shivraj of Buddies and his fellow bodybuilders of Buddies Gym.

HEAVYWEIGHT BODYBUILDER, Alvin Small, has clinched his pro card at the 2010 UKBFF British finals. Although Small has been training for many years, his first competition was only four years ago. Since winning the intermediate over 90kg class at the UKBFF Leicester qualifier in 2006, Small has improved leaps and bounds.

In 2008 he impressed the UKBFF (UK Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation) so much with his continual physical improvements they invited him to compete at the prestigious Arnold Schwarzenegger amateur body-building competition in Columbus, Ohio in March of 2009, where he placed 5th in his line-up amongst the best amateurs from around the world.

After another impressive showing at the 2009 UKBFF finals, Small received another invitation to represent Britain at the 2010 event in Ohio.

Last month, Alvin competed at the British finals again and not only won the super-heavyweight over 100kg class, but won the overall title against all the winners of the other weight categories making him the UKBFF 2010 Professional. A pro card is the jewel in the crown for a bodybuilder as they are only awarded to a rare few.

Modest Alvin told the Voice of Sport: “I’ve been quite fortunate to have reached the pro ranks in such a short time as many body-builders spend years trying to acquire pro status.

“The ultimate place to go is the Olympia as this is the highest point in this sport and those who make a mark here make a mark in history so the next 18 months we’ll see just how big Alvin Small can be.”

Alvin is now training for his first professional bodybuilding competition – the 2011 IFBB British Grand Prix & Fitness Expo Weekend which takes place.

DeKALB – Japonica Walker isn’t your typical bodybuilder.

She’s a 51-year-old mother of eight who was one of many competitors in the 2010 OCB Midwest States Bodybuilding and Figure Competition held Saturday at the Egyptian Theatre. “My testimony to women is that it doesn’t matter how many children you have – diet and exercise will change your body,” she said.

This weekend’s event was the sixth bodybuilding competition Walker has entered this year, and she traveled from Texas with hopes of earning an OCB Midwest “pro card” at Saturday’s competition that will allow her to compete nationally for cash prizes. “It’s the opportunity of the year,” she said.

The DeKalb competition has grown since it began in 2005, when 19 bodybuilders competed for a title in its inaugural year. On Saturday, 86 competitors took the stage in hopes of claiming one of eight first-place slots. Last year, 54 people competed. Most competitors committed to at least three months of preparation for Saturday’s contest, which includes cardio and weight training programs, strict nutrition plans, tanning and learning each of the stage poses. Competitor John Brungardt, 33, from Kansas City, Mo., has been entering bodybuilding competitions since 2002, and this is the first year he’s entered the OCB Midwest States competition in DeKalb. “It’s a lot different from other sports,” he said. “Every rep and every set counts, and you’re dieting 24-seven. It takes a lot of work.”

Tim Corlett had plans to eat a whole pizza and a cookie cake when the competition wrapped up. The 20-year-old came from Ames, Iowa, to DeKalb for his first bodybuilding competition. “It’s the hardest sport I’ve ever done,” he said.

For Laurie Foote, a 41-year-old from Chicago, bodybuilding is a fun hobby. The OCB Midwest States was the second bodybuilding competition she’d entered, and Foote said she was a little nervous. “The competition here is pretty fierce, which is good because I want to compete against good people,” she said.

Ray Binkowski, event promoter and owner of FitWorkz in DeKalb, said he expected between 400 and 600 spectators in the crowd this year. People traveled from as far as Texas and New Jersey to compete. He said he chooses to hold the competition at the theater because of the atmosphere. “We get compliments every year on the environment,” he said.

Alex Nerad, executive director of the Egyptian Theatre, said almost 500 people filled the theater to watch last year’s competition. “It’s been absolutely fantastic,” he said. “I think what’s most impressive is that we draw people from all over the country for this event.”

18.11.2010 | Author: greatarticles | Posted in General Articles

A bodybuilding competition is an extreme event by nature, as you have a large number of highly motivated and well trained athletes competing with each other and trying to outshine each other in the eyes of the judges and spectators. If you are going to contend is that type of climate, it is important for you to be in leading condition and also show off faith in yourself and grandiosity. You will be better prepared when you enter a bodybuilding match if you put the following approaches to use.

If you are going to enter a bodybuilding contest, you want to bulk up as much as possible. Having great definition is also very important. Eating quality food and consistently training hard will help you achieve both objectives. You may be tempted to load up on carb rich foods and junk food to gain weight. This method will help you add pounds but not in the way you want as a bodybuilder. It would be wiser to focus on high quality proteins, including lean meats and eggs, as well as fruits and vegetables. Because they are just empty calories, try to avoid as much sugar and process foods as possible. Smart Seo methods, immplemented intelligently can cause desirable search engine results positioning for pretty much any subject ranging from animals to eyeglasses. As with any sport, each bodybuilder will have a different set of strengths and weaknesses. For example, they may have great arms but need to work on their legs. But you need a balanced physique for a competition so it’s important to work hard on your weak areas. But you need to be careful not to neglect any of the muscle groups. For example, someone may enjoy working their biceps so therefore don’t spend enough time doing other exercises. Being a competitive bodybuilder means you can’t do whatever you want at the gym; you need to concentrate on building all of your muscles.

If you look at bodybuilding magazines, or videos, you often see the competitors with lots of oil to better show off their muscles. You should realize, however, that not all bodybuilding contests permit the use of oils. So if you are using oils when you practice your poses, make sure you find out about the rules of the competition you are entering. You don’t want to become dependent on the use of oil since it is not allowed at all competitions. Even though they can help you highlight the tone of your muscles, you shouldn’t count on being able to use it.

When you enter a bodybuilding contest, you will find yourself in a whole different world with its own rules and values. If you want to succeed in this world, you have to devote a lot of time and hard work to this goal. It is crucial for you to eat healthily, train consistently and also to cultivate poses that will put the judges and spectators in awe. By utilizing the previously mentioned recommendations you will have an extra edge when you take part in the competition. Keep in mind that win or lose, you’ll most probably be in the best physical shape of your life on the day of the contest!
